Kinniya Hot Springs is located in the Trincomalee District of the eastern province of Sri Lanka. It is a popular tourist destination in Sri Lanka. This site is managed by the local council of Trincomalee. There are 8 kilometres from Trincomalee railway station to this place. Kinniya Hot Springs is the natural wonder of this area.

Kinniya Hot Springs is a famous hot well since the past in Sri Lanka. There are seven square shape wells in this place. It is 3 or 4 feet deep. The temperature varies from one spring to another. But you can see the bottom of the well clearly. Normally average temperature in this well is 42 Celsius.

People believed that this hot water is good for skiing deceases. Some people believed it is good for Arthritis and Rheumatic.

History of well

There is a Buddhist monastery and Shiva temple next to the kanniya hot springs. Kinniya Hot Springs's history is going to the Anuradhapura period. The Buddhist monk was residing in the area during Anuradhapura time. There are ancient ruins visible in that area. This place is an archaeologically protected site.

According Ramayanaya is the place where king Rawana carried out the last rites of his mother. When he was unable to find water, he was angry and pie-iced his sword into the ground seven times. Later emerged into the hot springs. These hot springs get names kanniya after his mother.
